Inglis House
Inglis was founded in 1877. It all started with a young girls dream and a $1 gold coin. Annie Inglis who contracted scarlet fever as a young child was left disabled. Annie expressed a dream to her mother that one day there would be a home in Philadelphia to care for those of low income with disabilities. Annie's $1 gold coin would be used to begin fundraising to help realize Annie's dream for a unique home in Philadelphia. Today Inglis House is home to over 200 residents. Inglis House is just one part of Inglis. Annie's dream has grown into a system of services and products designed to maximize the independence of adults with physical disabilities for those living at Inglis House as well as those living independently in community settings.
Inglis mission; Enable people with disabilities- and those who care for them- to achieve their goals and live life to the fullest. Inglis numerous programs and services reach out to over 1000 people with disabilities every day! In addition to Inglis House, a few of our programs include: Employment Services, Inglis Assistive Tech Solutions, and Accessible Housing and Self Determination House of Pennsylvania (SDHP).
Inglis' Volunteer Department is an integral part of the services and care Inglis provides for our residents and service participants. The mission of the Volunteer Department is to create meaningful interactions between residents and volunteers. We ask that volunteers commit to at least 3 months of regular service. Volunteers will partner with our Therapeutic and Life Enrichment Services Department to actively engage with residents in programs such as art & history classes, various games, sports programs, spiritual programs and music therapy. Volunteers will actively participate and engage in these programs to create meaningful experiences. Volunteers will receive direction from the Therapeutic and Life Enrichment staff to maximize everyone's experience and engagement. Volunteers also have the opportunity to visit with residents one on one to provide social interaction and develop a lasting rapport.
